Dmitry,
Kind of off-topic, but I should mention that Carbon was born to die, eventually.
It was just a way for Adobe, Macromedia, Microsoft and Quark to make their apps compatible with Mac OS X. Oh, and also to provide a way for simpler legacy apps to run in a non-emulated environment, such as Classic.
Cocoa should have been the API of choice for Mac OS X, but Apple was not in a position to demand huge rewrites from scratch from those big developers at that time.
Now, for the rest of your message, I still haven't tried Xcode 4 yet.
