Instruments Time Profiler crashes

  • Subject: Instruments Time Profiler crashes

Hi. I'm trying to use the Instruments Time Profiler in Xcode 4.0.2, but it crashes every time I select it. Steps to reproduce:

1. Launch Instruments.
2. Select Mac OS X, CPU, Time Profiler.
3. Click "Choose".
4. Wait 1 second.
5. Boom.

The crash dialog says, "Instruments cannot be opened because of a problem. Check with the developer to make sure Instruments works with this version of Mac OS X." This is very odd, because I'm running Mac OS X 10.6.7 (Build 10J869). The crash reports have this error:

Dyld Error Message:
  Symbol not found: _CPOSXCompareKernelExtensionVersions
  Referenced from: /Xcode4/Applications/Instruments.app/Contents/PlugIns/SamplerPlugin.bundle/Contents/MacOS/SamplerPlugin
  Expected in: /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/CoreProfile.framework/Versions/A/CoreProfile

I can file a bug report, but I would like to get this to work, say, today-ish.

The only reason I'm trying to use Xcode 4 is that the Xcode 3 Time Profiler causes kernel panics on my 6-core Mac Pro. (<rdar://problem/9113132>, which was inexplicably closed, grrr.)

-Jeff
