Xcode freezes entire machine

When I build an application in Xcode 4, whenever it runs into an EXC_BAD_ACCESS or a breakpoint, my entire computer locks up. I can't switch to other applications, and Option-Command-Escape does nothing. I can move the pointer on the screen, but clicking anywhere (even in the Dock or the menubar) does nothing. I have to power off manually to recover.

What have I set wrong in Xcode to cause this?
