Ah, I see. How does one confine to the LLVM compiler, and what does that do? It sounds like something unconventional.

1.83 GHz would be tolerable (annoyingly slow, but workable) in a Core 2 Duo or better, but not, I believe on Core Duo.
1 GB of memory is impossible for a project of any size, let alone 300 files. Your machine is thrashing, and there's no way to make it better.
4 GB will work if you can confine yourself to the LLVM compiler. However, for projects that are less demanding than yours, I found I couldn't run anything at the same time as Xcode 4 for very long at 4 GB (MBP, 2.93 GHz Core 2 Duo). At 8 GB, I have no complaints.
