I have real mixed feelings about Sandboxing. Right now my apps don't see the light of day as far as the public goes so this isn't a problem. However I have had a few ideas that would be nice to find time to develop and place on the app store. Even then I'm not convinced the apps would be impossible.
I suppose I should pay more attention to what Apple is doing here. From my perspective it looks like entitlements require more developer involvement than they should. Having the user anoint the app really shouldn't be a problem.
The problem appears to be Apple assuming all users are idiots. This leaves me with an extremely negative impression of Apple. You have to have some confidence that the user will be doing the right thing when they type in their admin password. As for app store maybe they need multiple classes of apps - pro apps if you will with a different base configuration for security.
