or, it could mean "there is a bug in Xcode". ;)
Actually there is a known bug of this sort. I'm just looking at "MyApp.app" which has been built without errors, bur still is colored red and can't be located via Finder. Another app in another project, both sharing the same root folder where the workspace file is located, will work correctly at the same time.
Cleaning the build folder, recompiling everything and restarting Xcode and will not fix the issue.
