Do you really mean GCC 4.2 and not LLVM-GCC? Xcode 4.2 no longer supports GCC 4.2. On my machine it’s not even available as an option in the project settings, but maybe it is for you because you installed over 4.1. But it sounds as though Xcode switched your project to LLVM when upgrading. (Which is a bit surprising, as it would have been better to switch to LLVM-GCC.)
