Hello,
Does anyone have a “mother of all Xcode X.Y download links”?
Also, a recommended Hardware / OS spreadsheet and perhaps a “not recommended
but valid spreadsheet” for XCODE.
Note:
The rationale for the question is that the same/similar/related
issue occurs every time I visit the Apple developer universe. Apple wants me to
download what Apple feels I should download. So, if I just wanted to download XCODE
X.Y [the X and the Y seem to be dictated by Apple] within 97 seconds of logging
into the developer universe, I could. However, if I want some other version of XCODE
[XCODE U.V], there is a high probability that I would ask on this list for a
detailed URL after spending 15-30 minutes clicking useless links that do not
lead to version U.V.
I am an XCODE novice who last used XCODE 2 or 3.x on TIGER and
LEOPARD pre 2009. I only visit the developer site sporadically, mostly for
automator and applescript docs. But when I do look for an old IDE for a newly
created/upgraded [old] system with an old OS I almost always wind up asking on
this list because I want Immediate XCODE Gratification [IXG] and the Apple developer
universe [which is not quite equal to the xcode-users universe] just can’t
satisfy me. My opinion is that this is a usability issue with the developer website.
This is my opinion from the perspective of a sporadic developer site user and a
list lurker.
Just one last thought: Totally absolutely super fantastic thanks
to the Apple employees who hang on the list and answer questions like the
above. Apple employees on this list are the best “semi-official Apple workaround”
that I know of. Again my opinion.
Apologies if this question has been covered/discussed/answered
before [most likely the spreadsheets]. Also if it is inexperience with the site.
