Xcode, iTunes & PostgreSQL

I have Xcode 4.2 on 10.7.5 and run a custom install of PostgreSQL 9.1.2. I recently updated iTuners which triggered an install on Xcode launch that for some reason did a kill 9 on Postgres, corrupting my database. Fortunately it was easily recoverable but is there a way to know how Postgres is used so I can avoid this problem?
