Unable to expand documentation package for iOS 5.0 Library.

Xcode keeps telling me that it is "Unable to expand documentation package for iOS 5.0 Library", as well as the OS X 10.7 Core Library and the Xcode 4.2Developer Library.
I checked the permissions in /Library/Developer/Documentation/DocSets - even changed them to be world-readable to no avail.
Xcode keeps downloading the 500 MB constantly at least once per day.
could somone shed some light here please?
