FYI, I reproduced the problem in a trivial test case in a brand new project, and filed a bug report with Apple (rdar://10696348).

It occurs with both Clang and LLVM-GCC 4.2, which is kind of surprising since I distinctly remember this kind of format-checking working in earlier projects of mine last year.
