I can't reproduce this, with Xcode (note spelling) 4.2.1, iOS 5.0 SDK, Mac OS X 10.7.2, following any reasonable interpretation of your steps.

Apple will not enter bug reports into its database unless you enter them yourself at bugreport.apple.com.

In this case, I'd attach my preferences file (~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.dt.Xcode.plist). Attach an example project (they might be able to work with just the .xcodeproj package) if you can. Also, of course, the crash report (in ~/Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports/).
