Xcode 4.4 lets me choose any OS from 10.4 - 10.8 as the target. I don't know what the target does though. It appears to be a restriction that prevents my app from running on anything older than the target. I am still allowed to use newer API and the Quick Help says that I should know that I'm using newer API and check for it.

:(. I mostly develop for 10.6 but also do development for iOS 5 and OS X 10.7 and 10.8. I just converted an app to use auto-synthesize. I want to use the latest tools, I just need the older SDK.
