The shortcut and menu option is for Xcode 4. In Xcode 3, I believe it's under the "Run" menu but the keyboard shortcut is much more complicated at cmd+ctrl+option+R...

This is not a programmatic way, but pressing cmd-K in the debug console clears
the output.
