OK. I found all kinds of info.plist files hiding in my project. They got there when I was fooling around adding a 3rd party framework into the project. I have eliminated all of them except for the one that describes my project and have verified that it contains what I think it should.
I deleted the app and rebuilt it but the app name in the menu stays corrupted and the app's icon has become generic after the build. I have replaced the app icon using cut&paste in the info window but if I delete the app and rebuild from scratch the icon reverts to generic.
I have even used AppZapper to purge all of the app files with no new results.
There must be somewhere in the system files that OS X keeps app info like icons and menu items that I haven't eradicated.
Any other ideas?
Again, this is in OS X not IOS.
