In the spirit of the discussion today, I really don't know how some features make it into the product and make it past QA.
There are features in the iTunes/Xcode/iOS ecosystem that are so flawed, they remind me of Windows Me.
Platform: Mac OS 10.6.8, Xcode 4.2, MBP 17" MacBookPro8,3
Devices: iPod Touch Gen3 (MC008LL), iPod Touch Gen4 (MC544LL), iPad (MC981LL).
Now, I've got an iOS project that I'm responsible for and a bunch of devices I need to tether to my Mac to make sure I can build on and that they run. Considering that I have 3 devices and not as many iDevice compatible cables, I thought I'd try out this Xcode "iOS Device Discovery" over wireless (802.11n shared from the MBP).
Sweet mother of suck. Devices appearing and then disappearing from the Xcode 4 organizer, you HAVE TO initiate a sync from iTunes for the devices to show up in the Organizer, and then when they FINALLY appear and I try to push a build to one of them, I get this:
Error Starting Executable 'myApp'.
Don't know how to run. Try "help target".
What? Huh? How?
My mind is boggled. I am at a complete loss. How do 1/2 completed buggy features like this actually make it past QA and into the product if it is going to cause us inordinate amounts of grief?
What has happened to Apple with "it just works?"
Why let the product shop with these features if they are this shoddy?
How does garbage like this pass QA?
Mind boggled. So much time wasted. Time = money. Someone should tell that to the product teams.
Enjoy your weekends. I'll be kicking puppies in anger and throwing ducklings into traffic.
