Let's see, if you want to see where the braced section begins or ends, you put the cursor on a brace and then scroll with the wheel.  When the cursor hits another brace, you're done.

That's a functional advantage.  The only "advantage" to the other way is that it saves a line.  A line that should be there for readability anyway.

So this is a ridiculous strawman.
