changing simulated metrics changes constraints

In the WWDC videos about autolayout and constraints we are encouraged to play with the simulated metrics on the top-level view as a way of trying out our constraints. But my experimentation in Xcode suggests that the results of doing that are disastrous: instead of showing you what would happen given the present constraints and the changed metrics (e.g. changing from iPhone 4 to iPhone 5 screen), Xcode creates a completely different set of constraints! May I presume this is a bug? The workaround is to test constraints only with the simulator, changing the Hardware specification there, but this is laborious, so it would be nice if things worked as advertised. Thx - m.
