Wow. That's pretty bad.
In that case, I'd use the Xcode approach where you should be able to click a plus button in the Organizer to add a device as Duncan mentioned.
If you don't have to leave Xcode to handle the device management and provisioning for iOS, that's a plus. Hopefully, this will work for you.
Command Shift 2 to open the Organizer and then I think there should be a Devices button on the left of the top middle of the Organizer window.
I believe the Add Device button (with a plus on it) may be in the lower left of the Organizer when Devices is selected up top.
