Not sure if this is the right list for this question, but here goes:
I have several flavors of my app that go with different music keyboards.
They each have their own unique Creator ID, and their own unique icons for
various document types.
However, they use the same file extensions; i.e. For a document file the
extension is .kdf, for all flavors of the app.
When you install one app on a machine, all is well - the document files show
the correct icons.
When I install more than one app on the same machine (2 different flavors),
they both use .kdf for document types. The second installed app's documents
show up with the icons from the first app (sometimes, not always), and with
a "Get Info" show they are to be opened by the first app, and not the second
app (the wrong app, therefore).
The second app does appear in the list of apps that they *could be* opened
with. But the first app is given the designation "default".
So even though the docs have different Creator IDs, they have the same file
IDs of 'Kkdf' and the same extension of .kdf.
Each app has its own plist assigning the .kdf extension to a particular icns
file included in the app's bundle - and the icns files have unique names for
each app.
Is there something I could be or should be doing, so that if a user installs
more than one flavor of the app, the documents for each app will be assigned
to point to the correct "open with" app and icon?
I gather this is a Launch Services issue, but I don't know if there is some
script I should be running or something to tell Launch Services how to
correctly interpret the relationships of the files to the second installed
app.
Thanks,
- Stephen
