Every other simulator launch fails

Every time I modify and run my iOS app while it's already running in the sim, I get this error:
Couldn't register MyApp with the bootstrap server. Error: unknown error code (1100).
This generally means that another instance of this process was already running or is hung in the debugger.
I can sometimes just run again, and it works, but often I have to actually kill the process via the Stop button in Xcode, or quit the simulator. Frequently, the system "quit unexpectedly" dialog appears.
When the ill-fated run begins, sometimes the simulator screen goes black (my launch image), and if I click the Xcode stop button, you can briefly see the aborted launch on the simulator move forward, only to be killed (presumably by Xcode) a moment later.
Anyway, this is getting frustrating. It was working more smoothly some time ago. Could be ever since I installed Xcode 5 DP, but I *think* (with low confidence) this was happening before that.
Any ideas?
