I didn’t try it that way.

Just out of curiosity I tried that command just now and the window pops up saying

‘The “Xcode-select” command requires the command line developer tools. Would you like to install the tools now?’

I thought I had just installed them via the package in the dmg file (no autocorrect, I meant “dmg” and not “dog”)? I’ll try this install approach on my laptop and see what happens.
