Well, that's kind of silly. That's Apple's preferred distribution channel, it should work.

I sort of get why, trying to reliably make a random custom piece of hardware stuck into a USB port behave under a simulator in the same way as an integrated bluetooth controller in custom designed hardware was probably very hard so they gave up. Don't shoot me, I'm just the messenger.
Also just silly. They can make anything work. The simulator is a boon, and should not be relegated to second-class status. It vastly improves development speed.
