+1. The App Store will look for and find apps that have been moved out of /Applications and update them, so if you want multiple copies of Xcode, avoid installing it from the App Store.


And to answer the earlier question:
If so, what about the associated Xcode files in ~/Library (such as
~/Library/Applications and ~/Library/Developer):

Don’t worry about them. They’ll work with either/both versions as far as I know.
