Weak linking seems to be frowned on by users

I’m a bit confused by this statement. What users are frowning on weak-linking, and what do they claim their reasons to be?

No reasons were given, but some comments on stack overflow.com suggested that weak linking wasn't a good idea and wasn't useful for different situations. I figured there had to be an easier way, since my app doesn't rely on features in 10.8 or 10.9, so I ignored weak linking for the time being and did not investigate further.
