Thanks, Jens. Someone pointed it out to me off-list. Embarrassingly, I fear I've asked the same thing before.
The curious thing is that by the time I looked, the menu was showing OS X, and it was behaving normally. Prima facie, I hadn't changed it. But I had updated Xcode from a beta in the meantime, so maybe it was a bug in the beta.
