The only thing I might add:

When I first went to copy it to /Applications, the Finder said (after MUCH churning) that I was about to replace a newer item with an older one. I couldn't make sense of the created/modified dates I saw on the two packages (the beta 2 in /Applications and the beta 3 in the .dmg), so I decided to copy it to the Desktop instead, and then compare the two build numbers in the About box. Perhaps it has something to do with launching from the Desktop? I hope not!

Note that THIS is because the Get Info window doesn't show a useful version number. It really needs to show something like 7.0b3, otherwise it's impossible to tell versions apart without launching them, especially when their modification dates seem incorrect.
