Xcode: Upgrade to Latest Project Format

Xcode 6.4, OS X 10.10.4, Cocoa

I have a Cocoa app I’ve been working on with Xcode 6.3. After upgrading to Xcode 6.4, I get the following build warning:

Upgrade to Latest Project Format
The project is currently archived in the Xcode 6.3-compatible format. Clicking "Perform Changes" will upgrade the project format to the latest format Xcode 3.2-compatible.

What does this mean? Why is Xcode asking to downgrade the archive format?
-Carl
