Obviously the git Client would have to be smart enough to display it correctly, but as there would be no formatting information in the file, it would compare the raw data and then display it using the same rules. It would be similar in concept to a MS-Word .doc or .docx file.
Good luck getting every source control engine and client to adopt your new format. ;-)

Developers are used to having a huge ecosystem of tools that work with line-oriented plain-text files. This was one of the major innovations and building blocks of Unix from the beginning. That’s a major reason why almost no one has ever used anything but human-readable plain text for source files.
Yeah, Unix set the industry back at least 10 years, things were much better before Unix reared it ugly bug-ridden head!
