Did you give the orange view a width and height? Sounds like you positioned it but didn’t say how big it was. Views with ambiguous layout may show up in all sorts of weird sizes and places.
The UILabel has an intrinsic size based on its contents so that sounds like its removing the ambiguity when its a subview.
