I’m trying out making a Foundation command-line tool. I added a bundle identifier string when creating the project, but I don’t see it anywhere, as if there’s no Info.plist. Are (Foundation) tools created by Xcode flat files, like traditional Unix tools? Or are they bundles? If flat files, can they be made into bundles with some project tweaks?

There’s a project/target setting to embed the Info.plist in a text segment of a flat binary. Add an Info.plist to your project, set the “Info.plist File” setting for the target, and enable the “Create Info.plist Section in Binary” setting.

IIRC this was added to support code signing of tools. Until a few years ago, there was no UI for it; you had to add a flag manually. There’s more info at Red Sweater’s blog.

This really helped, even though I had to figure out the exact settings myself. Thank you.

You can see how I did it by looking at the “0.1” release of the project at <https://github.com/CTMacUser/cget>.
