I’m building my OS X product using Xcode 3, on 10.6, using 10.5 as the base and deployment SDK. It’s been very stable on 10.5 through 10.9. On 10.10 we’ve been seeing a lot of random crashing. Management is reluctant to make any changes to the build process

Upgrading the OS is definitely a change to the build process! If The Mgmt. think it’s OK to upgrade the OS without also upgrading the compiler to a version that's compatible with that OS, then they’re operating in terra incognita and should expect problems.

Put another way, if they want to keep things stable they should set up a build machine (or a VM) with OS X 10.6 and Xcode 3, and then never upgrade them.
