It’s another Xcode little annoyance. if you just select the product none of the choices under Editor->Add Build Phase are enabled for some reason. However if you use the little ‘+’ button just above the list of phases, you should find it enabled. Similarly if you select and expand any one of the phases, any one usually works, the menu item becomes enabled.

I use the ‘+’ button.
