Media library - resource name collisions

I have several media resources with the same name but 4 different extensions: name.png. name.pdf, etc.
In the media library these items are displayed in one row/cell with a 4 highlight.
A double click throws up a popover.
But how do I actual select which item I want?
There are a row of links along the top entitled Default but nothing I do seems to have much effect.

You could say - don’t be such a dummy, change the resource names.
But these resources are shared with another platform so I don’t really want to have to monkey with the names.

J
