I don’t use it, but I work on an open-source framework (Couchbase Lite) that supports both Carthage and CocoaPods. I have to say that both of them are real pains in the ass to support.

I like the idea of Carthage, but it’s too limited — when you add a dependency on a repo, there’s no way to specify any custom settings. This causes problems for apps that use our product, which has a lot of moving parts such as multiple frameworks it can build (for three platforms), with various options like whether to support database encryption.
