Is there a way to globally say that I always want to open the original source?
Likely not, in any direct kind of way. Why do you want to *routinely* open the original source? If there’s a particular reason, there may be a workaround.
For example, if you can afford to split the window, you can set the assistant editor manually to “Original Source”. Then you’ll get the original source whenever you Command-click in the main editor.
Or, you can assign a keyboard shortcut to the Jump to Original Source function, via preferences. If you can do it by the keyboard, you might not mind that it’s a two-step process.
