I just now received a private email purporting to be an official message from
this list's administrator, telling me that the administrator has "received a
request ... for the removal of your email address" from the subscribers list
and explaining how to resign from the list.

I have not requested to be removed from this list, and nobody could rationally
have interpreted my last post to the list as expressing a personal desire to
leave this list.

What is going on?
