It changes about once a year, and the magnitude of the changes is decreasing as
it matures. The 3-to-4 transition looks pretty minor compared to the 2-to-3
transition. And in all of these, Xcode’s reformatting tools do a lot of the
work for you automatically.
Like everything in tech there are tradeoffs around when to jump onto something
new. If I were developing apps, I think I’d have adopted it a year or two ago,
on the assumption that the speed-bumps like yearly language changes are less
than the benefit I get from using the language. (I develop frameworks, though,
to be used by lots of apps, and there are still unfortunately reasons not to
develop those in Swift.)
Having watched Java’s history, I’m glad Swift is going the opposite route. Java
was IMHO ruined early on by an unwillingness to make incompatible changes to
the language or (especially) the VM, which slowed its evolution to a crawl.
