Not true. "Applescript in a Nutshell" - awesome new reference.
Applescript for the Internet isn't much older and I'm told its decent.

could stand to have more documentation on the intricacies of their
respective AS dictionaries.

Not clear-cut, but much simpler using the "tell context" feature in
Script Debugger. I'd suggest buying Script Debugger if you want to
reach the next level.
