We're seeing exactly the same thing. The Mac OS X 10.2.4 updater includes
System Events 1.1.2, but it isn't installed if you previously installed
System Events 1.2 (as you just confirmed). Instead, the old 1.1.1 is left on
your disk, along with 1.2 beta. Isn't that what I said?

Perhaps I wasn't clear. System Events 1.1.2 in the Mac OS X 10.2.4 updater
does not support GUI Scripting -- GUI Scripting is only supported in the
System Events 1.2 beta that you and I (and a lot of others on this list)
previously installed. What System Events 1.1.2 does include, I'm guessing,
is the Folder Actions bug fix that I assume is not in System Events 1.1.1 or
1.2 beta.

How do I know that the Mac OS X 10.2.4 updater includes System Events 1.1.2?
I extracted it from the updater package using Pacifist, Charles Srstka's
wonderful utility. From the Read Me: "Pacifist is a Cocoa application that
attempts to do in Mac OS X what TomeViewer did in Mac OS 9 - it opens up
.pkg installer packages and lets you install or extract individual files out
of them." <http://www.charlessoft.com/>.
