String conversion problem from web

I'm using [NSString stringWithContentsOfURL:searchURL] to get some info
off of the web. Names with accent marks or other punctuation in them
come back strange:

JimC)nez
FernC!ndez
BagalC!

I have no idea what is going on as these items appear normally on the
web, but I have a feeling it's something pretty obvious. Is there a way
around it?
