I've just posted the first version of my Build Installer app up at
<
http://www.sourceforge.net/projects/buildinstaller/>. Basically it's
a no-fuss GUI wrapper for open source projects that build/install using
any part of the configure/make/make-install cycle. My intention with
creating it was to make it easy for end users (i.e. non-developers) to
install software from source. A lot of scientific/engineering
libraries really need to be installed from the source, not a pre-built
binary, in order to provide maximum performance. So hopefully this
comes in handy for some such projects.
The source is all BSD licensed, and the installer can be used (as a
binary) in any way desired.
Both downloads include documentation and a sample setup. The built app
is 112k, and is intended to be distributed with your source (unlike
Apple's Installer, for instance, where you just distribute a
document-like package). If size is really an issue, removing the app's
icon cuts it back to about 65k. :)
Please send in any suggestions, improvements and bug reports either
directly to me or via the Sourceforge page.
