Somebody (possibly yourself) suggested that this might be the problem the
first time I asked this question. I can report that this clearly is not the
case.
I tested cleaning & building my app with and without iTunes playing in the
background, and likewise simply launching the built app both with and
without iTunes playing. It didn't make a bit of difference.
If anything, I've noticed that my computer's performance can be seriously
degraded with iTunes running. I definitely know that I wouldn't want to put
a note in the read-me which states:
"Before playing this game, please launch iTunes to wake up your sound
hardware. Doing this will help avoid a 1 second delay the first time a sound
is played." :-D
I think this simply comes down to a problem with NSSound pre-10.3, and that
either I'll have to use the silent sound work-around, or just suffer with
it.
