Maybe, maybe not. Most of the time I hear about users struggling with
serial numbers, it boils down to one of the following:
1. User can't tell the difference between a Mac OS X administrator auth
window and a software reg window.
2. User tried to retype the SN and got it wrong (I always tell them to
copy and paste).
3. User only entered part of the SN (which I've never understood--
sometimes they drop the start, sometimes the end).
These users wouldn't find a cracked SN any easier to deal with.
Incidentally, this is where something like eSellerate's SDK is a HUGE
win. In this case, the SN is obtained by the SDK and is available to
your code-- so you can immediately save it to disk, thus avoiding all
of the above problems in a single stroke. I don't know if anyone else
offers comparable functionality. I used to think a "buy now" button
was a stupid idea, but for this and other reasons I wouldn't go without
one now. They just _work_, both in terms of making sales (users seem
to love them) and in terms of making the sale simple for all concerned.
