I'm also developing a set of in-house apps for a small business. I
started in Applescript Studio using FBScriptAgent which works with
FrontBase. (Originally developed by mmalc, I think.) FBScriptAgent is
free but FrontBase comes at a $1000 price tag for the most minimal
system.
I've recently started playing with MacSQL Framework, hoping there'll be
a lot less Applescript code to write. I even took the plunge and bought
a license at the pre-release price, saving $200 bucks. Hope I did the
right thing. We'll see.

This looks very cool indeed. The only problem is that $700 is a lot
of cash for developing non-commercial software, either free-ware or
just home tinkering. This raises a couple of questions:
1) Is there anything even close to this sort of functionality as
free-ware or open source?
The SMySQL framework, http://sourceforge.net/projects/mysql-cocoa, is
a good open source option.
2) Does RT Labs offer any sort of license for using this for personal
use without any redistribution rights?
Cheers,
Nicko
