John, I've given up filing bugs against Xcode.  But just for you:

I believe so.  Cocoa does not provide any native support for toolbar
items with menus <rdar://4197968.>, so the xcode ppl rolled their own,
and it's not consistent with the cocoa provided menuless ones.

Agreed, but I have to clean often.  Sigh.  It is better in 2.x vs 1.x
though.  Doesn't everyone have it it their toolbar?  How do you manage
without it!?
