How to get Spaces configuration?

Hi everyone. I remember somebody has asked this question before. However, it is very difficult to search the original text... First apologize for repeat this question again. I am wondering how to query the current user configuration for the Spaces application in the system preferences? I remember there is a configuration file which you can query or we can directly query the system preferences.
