Hi Paul,
I didn't trust my eyes after reading your mail. I can't beleave that this
was the answer from one of our sales guys in US.
At first to my person; I'm the CMM research Manager of Best and I can tell
you the history of the 10PS.
We started very early with the development of the implementation of the
10PS. At first we got much trouble with the colors, because the magenta is
to blue for Offset. But now we found a way to compensate this and our
results are very good. If you like Delta E values we can reach now an
Average Delta E which is inside the Quality restrictions for a proof from
the German FOGRA measured from an IT8/7.3 target against the offset. This is
realy an ICC-Profile which was only measured and not tweaked.
Another point is, that in every Best software, MAC or PC based, is the same
color management implemented, so you get the same result from the Pc Version
you get from the MAC Version. Only the functions from the software are
completly different.
I hope this will help you to get light in the darkness.
Ulf

Well I getting ready to upgrade the ole Epson printer. I was thinking
on getting HP 10PS and best designer edition RIP. So I called up
Bestcolor US and spoke with a sales rep. to see if I could find a
bundle deal and save a couple bucks. In talking with her she basically
told me the RIP was not very good. I told her what I wanted to do was
emulate a contact or press proof. She said it was not a very good
product for this. She further went on to say that the best I could
expect to from Best DE was a 70% color match. I told her I was already
doing much better than that with the lousy epson RIP that was free. I
then asked her why anyone buy this product she replied that its good for
position only. I than asked her "do I need to pay $750 for a position
rip to which she had no answer. Now this is from BestColor US I believe
in Ohio its the number you get from the BestColor website. So my
question is this. Does this product really suck as badly as she says it
does? I don't really need to spend money on a product that won't work.
I have no experience with it and maybe I was misinformed as to what it
is capable of.
