Color Management With ColorSync

I started with the simple thought that although I9m just a desktop amateur,
I would like to consistently print pictures that were reasonably close to
what I see on my monitor. Since I use a Mac, it made sense to me to use
ColorSync to accomplish this. I have learned that the Apple tech support
group is not staffed to support ColorSync; they did, however, suggest that I
subscribe to this discussion forum. A quick reading of a few digests makes
it clear that the level of color management competence of the core group is
way beyond me. Nevertheless, I will present my questions with the hope that
I make them sufficiently clear.
I am currently scanning photos into Photoshop Elements for editing and
printing. I have chosen "No Color Management" in Elements, but I have
enabled ColorSync on the print screen. I have also selected the profiles
for each of my devices on the ColorSync Control Panel; since I don9t know
what a "Proofer" is, I have entered my monitor profile for that item.
Which brings me to my questions: (1) What is a "Proofer" and what type of
profile is appropriate? (2) My workflow is shown as "Default". Is that
adequate? (3) On the Print Screen my Print Space Profile is the profile for
my monitor; the Source Space Profile is shown as Untagged RGB rather than
the profile for my scanner. Why? (4) Does any of this matter, if I like
what is on my monitor and I have profiles for my monitor and my printer and
ColorSync is enabled on the print screen?
My apology for being so wordy.
