Hi, I'm doing digital artwork with a few photographers in Paris, and none of
them is equiped with scanner and output device.
I've been trying tow differents prefessional photo labs for scanning and
outputing.
The first technician I've been in contact with is teling me that their brand
new heidelberg scanner is unable to attach a profile his scan, ???
The same guy is telling me that it's impossible to create a profile for
positive film on a film recorder?
They are both pretending that it is impossible to previsualise a
"Lambda-photographic-print withing photoshop 6 even though they've been
profiling those machines. The reason they give me is that phtoshop can't
previsualise RGB?
Are they right?
I need help here... They're asking me to give them an inkjet reference print
for each print I want... Do we rally need to do that?? That seem's wierd?
Thanks
Eva

Eva,
They're wrong on all three counts...
...convincing them of the fact may not be easy, though.
Profiling transparency output is more difficult than some other types
in that you need a transmissive spectrophotometer, which is a
slightly esoteric device, though not, one would hope, in a photo lab.
Previewing RGB output in Photoshop is simply a matter of going to
View>Proof Setup>Custom, and loading the desired RGB device profile.
The details on embedding profiles from heidelberg scans vary
depending on the software used to drive the scanner, but if you can
find out what it is, there's a strong chance that someone on the list
is using the same thing and can give you detailed instructions on how
its done. But Heidelberg as much as anyone is responsible for the
whole color management architecture we have today, and they're not
known for supplying products that discourage profile embedding...
